Hyperbaric oxygen therapy uses a special chamber, sometimes called a pressure chamber, to increase the amount of oxygen in the blood
Information
The air pressure inside the chamber is about two and a half times greater than the normal pressure in the atmosphere. This helps your blood carry more oxygen, and bring this oxygen to organs and tissues in your body. It can help wounds, especially infected wounds, heal more quickly.

Polemics of Hyperbaric Medicine
Applications in other countries
There are currently 13 indications that are approved uses of hyperbaric oxygen therapy as defined by the Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Committee.

Among patients receiving hyperbaric oxygen therapy, 92 percent were able to avoid a major amputation. In the control group, only 66 percent of patients avoided amputation. — Diabetes Care, 1996; 19(12): 1338-43.
